Art Created During the Spring Residency
About the artist
Leroy Johnson is a native Philadelphia and mixed media artist who explores the nature of urban life on a personal as well as a metaphorical level. He creates paintings, drawings, pottery, and assemblages inspired by contemporary events as well as memories. His work explores the meaning of the “beautiful” and attests to the power and attraction of the “unbeautiful”.
During the residency, Leroy Johnson intends to make finished works on paper, investigating drawing and color in a new environment using mixed media, collage, and photography with the future intention of further investigation and development in his studio in Philadelphia.
