Resident Artist

Kitty Caparella

Kitty has had a full and illustrious career as an investigative journalist, focused on organized crime. At the same time, she has pursued her passion for art and is a noted printmaker, lithographer in Philadelphia. In recent years, she has created encaustic studies of space, time, gravity, and communication and turned her attention to photography.

During her residency, Kitty photographed many areas and elements of the farm. She then used selected photographs to create startling, abstracted realities of the farm equipment, building, and implements. Working in encaustic, Kitty’s paintings reflect her response to the shapes, colors, and intriguing details of the human rural environment.

Since returning to Philadelphia, Kitty continues to draw on her photography in creating other rural and urban images, transforming representation into abstraction.
